Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What are nasal labial folds?

+

Nasal labial folds (also known as smile or laugh lines), develop as a result of the natural aging process which includes a decline in skin elasticity, and repetitive facial movements. Other factors such as genetics, excess sun exposure and lifestyle habits which include smoking, can cause the nasal labial folds to become more prominent.

Nasal labial fold treatment

+

One of the most common non-surgical treatment options involves the use of volumising product, that is injected via a needle and or cannula, in-front of the nasal labial folds. By injecting product into in-front of the nasal labial folds, the folds become far less visible. It is important that other areas of the face area are considered when trying to decrease the appearance of the nasal labial folds. For example, some women and men who have lost volume in their cheeks, may be more focused on the nasal labial folds as the face tends to take on a very ‘droop’ look. By simply injecting volumising product into the cheeks, the face can look fuller, lifted and more balanced, which will lead to an indirect decrease in the visibility of the nasal labial folds.

In addition, volume loss can occur in the perioral region (are around the mouth), which can also cause the nasal labial folds to be more prominent. We can address the loss of volume around the mouth, to provide a more harmonies lower-face region.

What type of products are used?

+

There are a range of products, that contain different consistencies which are often broken down into three main categories: –

  • Thin products – designed to last 3-6 months
  • Mid-range products – designed to last 9-12 months
  • Semi-permanent products – designed to last 18-24 months

These products are made from complex sugar molecules that naturally occur in your body and bind with water to support your skin and increase volume.

At Bella Plastic Surgery, we use only the highest quality products to achieve long-lasting results.

How long do the results last?

+

Your results will typically last two-three years however, there can depend on the type of product being used, among other factors.

What is the recovery time?

+

You may experience some minor swelling and bruising on and around the treated area. Following your procedure, you can apply makeup 24 hours following your treatment; to conceal bruising and we will recommend the best types of make-up to use.
