Thigh Lift Surgery (Thigh Lipectomy) is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and soft tissue from the upper thigh area, typically following significant weight loss. The aim is to improve comfort, hygiene, and contour, particularly in cases where loose skin causes functional concerns such as chafing or irritation.

Thigh Lift surgery tightens the skin and improves the form along the inner thigh. The excess skin and tissue are removed, leaving a scar that is hidden along the fold where the thigh and groin meet. This scar often travels down the inner aspect of the thigh to the knee.
Thigh Lift surgery is performed in a private hospital under general anaesthesia. The procedure typically takes between three and five hours.
Ideal candidates for the surgery are often individuals who have experienced massive weight loss or who have excessive loose skin that has lost its elasticity. Usually, they have loose and excessive skin folds along the upper inner thigh. These folds can cause significant issues with chafing, hygiene and clothing.
Suitable candidates must have maintained a stable weight for 12 months before undergoing surgery. Additionally, they should be in good mental and physical health, understand all surgical risks and complications and have realistic expectations regarding the surgical outcomes.
There are various types of Thigh Lift procedures:

Yes. After your Thigh Lift surgery, your surgical team will immediately fit you with a compression garment to help control swelling. This garment must be worn for at least six weeks.
Everyone’s experience with pain after surgery is different. However, you can expect to experience anything from moderate pain to significant discomfort. This pain may be near your incisions, and may also be nerve pain (experienced as shooting pains and burning). Your anaesthetist will give you plenty of pain medication during your hospital stay as well as pain medications to take home with you.
Your scars will take at least 12 to 24 months before they fully mature and begin to fade.
After approximately three weeks, you can consider returning to work, provided you are in an office and performing light duties. Light hospitality work can be recommenced at around four weeks. If your job involves heavy lifting or straining, please refrain from doing so for at least six weeks. Regarding exercise, consider the first six weeks after surgery as a period of recovery and the following six weeks as a time for rehabilitation, gradually resuming physical activities that you performed before surgery.
It will take you a good six weeks before you’re able to do all the things you could before surgery. However, your scars will take at least 12 to 24 months to fully mature.
