Your sunspots, freckles and ages spots will be completely removed during your first treatment. However, a subsequent touch-up treatment may be required if there is any residual pigmentation after the skin has healed.
Whilst most sunspots are benign (non-cancerous), sunspots can develop into skin cancer. Having your sunspots checked by a practitioner trained in skin cancer detection is essential. We recommend having your skin checked prior to laser sunspot removal treatment. We request that you provide a copy of your skin assessment, along with a referral from your skin cancer doctor, prior to attending our clinic.
The laser sunspot removal treatment if termed comfortable and is well tolerated by our patients. However, you will have the option to receive topical anaesthetic to numb the area being treated.
In terms of aesthetic results, the removal of your sunspots, freckles, and age spots, will be noticeable immediately following your first treatment. New skin will form in the treated areas and there will be some redness, skin crusting, and scabbing during the healing process. For several weeks your treated areas will continue to heal, and the scab will eventually fall off, leaving a red mark. This red mark is due to increased blood vessels that form to heal and repair the skin. In time, the redness will dissipate and the skin will heal. In some rare cases, the skin can become lighter or darker in the treatment area(s) – please refer to our ‘Potential Risks’ for more information.
Cost depends on the area treated, product or device used, and the number of sessions required to reach the desired result. Our cosmetic nurses will provide a tailored quote during your consultation.
Even though you have had your sunspots assessed as being benign (cancer free) by your skin cancer practitioner, there is still a risk of skin cancer being present within the sunspots. The laser ablates (burns) away sunspots, meaning that nothing is available to be sent away for pathology for further testing, so you need to be aware that pathology testing is not possible with this treatment. Although the potential risks are extremely uncommon, one or more of the following may occur:
